In people with diabetes, considering the possibility of losing weight is often about making sacrifices while trying to strike the right balance. At times it may be detrimental to their health. Type 2 diabetes could be cured in some instances if self-discipline and effort are consistently applied during weight loss. Yet, while attempting to lose weight, unique difficulties must be addressed- blood sugar level maintenance being the most critical one.
For individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, losing weight becomes the magic pill to many health complications. Even a little weight loss of around 5-10% body circle may increase the person’s insulin sensitivity, decrease blood sugars, and lower the chances of complications to those tissues. Sometimes, in rare scenario’s weight loss may be extreme where blood sugars become normal, thereby active diabetes may be completely over. It’s this potential change that makes losing weight a primary target for many diabetics.

Nevertheless, it is important to understand that losing weight in people with diabetes is not simple. It is rather well known that some diabetes medications, such as insulin and some oral drugs, make it arduous to lose weight as they have a tendency to increase body mass. Furthermore, the problem lies in the need of keeping a good control over one’s caloric intake and maintaining stable blood glucose levels, in order to avoid instances of hypoglycemia (Low blood sugar) in particular. This indicates that persons living with diabetes have to change their ways of attempting weight loss by incorporating lifestyle changes, exercising more, and perhaps changing some of their medication.

On the other hand, better times are ahead with newer therapies targeting diabetes, such as GLP-1 receptor agonists. These not only improve control of blood sugars but help lose weight at the same time, hence the versatile use of these in cases where patients have the issue of weight control in diabetes. With the right combination of medical treatment, lifestyle modification, and motivation, one can tackle the issue of weight loss.
