Intragastric Balloons Intra gastric balloons are safe and reversible methods of non-surgical weight loss. These patients already have undergone considerable changes in diet and lifestyle, and these balloons provide further assistance. BMI patients greater than 30 may benefit from the use of gastric balloons. These balloons are reasonably positioned. The Orbera® Intragastric Balloon does not require complex surgeries and can be considered a non-invasive weight loss treatment. The Orbera®, a device implanted in the stomach through an endoscopic procedure, is a silicone balloon that goes in the stomach. In a saline solution a sterile blanket is tinted, filled up to the dimensions of a grapefruit. The period of implant is max half a year, there is less discomfort during eating as a balloon in the upper part of the stomach reduces its effective volume. After twelve weeks with the gastric balloon the proportion of stomach volume is restricted to 60-70 percent, possible average percentage weight loss with the gastric balloon is ten percent among treated subjects. The implantable balloon option is not for chronic overeaters.
